Troubleshooting Guide

Application issues

Z Glue Gun Extruding BeadNot enough glue reaching the surface

Increase the amount of glue being applied or use a bigger nozzle. Make sure the glue is fully melted. Move the glue gun closer to the surface. Warm the material if it feels cold.

Too much glue is being applied

Lower the pump pressure or switch to a smaller nozzle. Lower the glue temperature so it’s not too runny. Hold the pieces together a little longer. You may need a faster-setting glue.

The glue line gets bumped or disturbed before it bonds

Make sure the parts aren’t shifting or vibrating. Reduce the time between applying the glue and pressing the parts together.Glue is leaving “strings” when the gun moves away

Increase the glue temperature slightly. Move the gun a little closer. Check the nozzle for buildup. If strings continue, a different glue formula may be better.

Glue flow & quality

Glue isn’t spreading smoothly

Warm the glue a little more so it flows better. Try a different nozzle size. Warm the material if it feels cold. Clean off any dirt, oil, or coating on the surface.

Glue is too thick or hard to pump

Raise the temperature slightly. Replace old or expired glue. Check that the glue hasn’t started curing inside the tank.

Glue is too runny or watery

Lower the temperature. Reduce pump pressure. Switch to a thicker glue formula if needed.

Dark specks or burnt glue in the melt tank

Lower your temperature settings. Don’t leave glue heated for long periods when the machine isn’t running. Empty and clean the tank if burned material is present.

Glue appears foamy or bubbly

Check for moisture in the glue . Replace glue if contaminated. Lower temperature to avoid overheating.

Bonding & setting

Make sure the glue matches the materials you’re bonding. Raise the glue temperature so it can spread better. Add a bit more glue if the coverage looks light. Clean the surfaces so they’re free of dust or oil. Hold the pieces together longer or with more pressure.

Cartons or parts keep popping open

Apply more glue, or increase the temperature. Increase compression and hold time. Switch to a packaging-grade glue if needed. Make sure surfaces aren’t coated or dusty.

Glue taking too long to set

Lower the temperature to thicken the glue slightly. Increase pressure and hold time. Try a faster-setting formula.

Glue setting too quickly

Increase glue temperature. Apply slightly more glue. Move the gun closer to the substrate. Choose a longer open-time adhesive.

Surfaces aren’t bonding because they’re too cold

Warm the materials before gluing. Store materials indoors. Raise glue temperature. Increase the amount of glue to help with heat transfer.

Equipment & maintenance

Nozzle is clogging often

Clean the nozzle regularly. Replace it if worn. Reduce char by lowering heat or cleaning the tank. Check for contaminants in the glue.

Clean or replace the nozzle. Check hoses for blockages or worn spots. Make sure all temperature zones are heating correctly. Replace filters if needed.

Hoses not heating or showing temperature errors

Check electrical connections and power supply. Inspect thermocouples. Replace damaged hoses. Make sure controls are set to the right temperatures.

Glue gun isn’t firing

Check wiring and air lines. Make sure the gun is fully heated. Clean the nozzle. Replace or clean the solenoid valve if sticking.

Material & adhesive compatibility

Glue bead skips or looks “broken”

Check air pressure. Inspect hoses for internal blockages. Replace filters. Make sure the pattern controller is working correctly.

Different adhesive types mixed together

Always purge old glue completely before adding a new type. Never mix adhesives. Clean tank, hoses, and guns when switching between formulas.
